To Eat in Alcobaça

There are so many options for dining in Alcobaça. It seems that every local in town has a different answer for where to go for great food with a warm, authentic atmosphere. There are a few places most agree on and those are O Cabeco and Restaurante Antonio Padeiro. O Cabeco is tucked away in the leafy hills that surround Alcobaça. It is family owned and the owners aim to please. A four course lunch is only ten euros with everything from roast pig to local fish dishes on offer. Their wine and gin menus are impressive and will give you plenty of reasons to raise your glass in honor of a brilliant meal.

The only complaint about Restaurante Antonio Padeiro is that there is no way to finish the generous portions that adorn the tables. If you are looking for a lighter lunch or dinner, don't accept the appetizer round because the portions are huge! It is good to note that in many Portuguese restaurants, it is customary for appetizers to be brought to your table that reflect the types of cooking for the particular establishment. They are not free (even if they are simple like breadsticks) so if you don't want them, let your server know right away to avoid any misunderstandings. The appetizers are, however, a great way to sample what is to come. If you have room and are feeling adventurous, dig in!
