Travel - Costa de Prata
Although a car is often very useful, for many locations around Portugal's Silver Coast they are not strictly necessary. There are good bus and coach services and also taxis are available and they can be really helpful from time to time. There is also a train station in the centre of São Martinho do Porto. Although the trains tend to be reasonably slow and infrequent, they can be very helpful if you know the schedules and the destinations you can visit. The cost of a hire car can be very high, so significant savings can be made by using public transport and occasionally relying on a taxi to help with travel during the evenings or stocking up for the week from the local supermarket.
Transfers from Lisbon airport
Typically guests flying to Portugal to visit the Silver Coast will arrive at Lisbon airport. We can recommend a number of taxi drivers that can help with the transfers from the airport direct to towns such as São Martinho do Porto, Nazaré and Foz do Arelho. The fares are reasonable and the convenience of being picked up at the airport and taken directly to your holiday home can be very appealing. Travelling by coach
If you do want to keep costs to a minimum, or if you enjoy public transport, there good coach links between Lisbon and various towns around the Silver Coast. During the day it's easy to get direct coaches to São Martinho do Porto and Nazaré. During the evening however coaches become less frequent and it can become more difficult to get a direct coach. There are coaches that run frequently and until reasonably late to Caldas da Rainha, from there you can often take a bus to São Martinho do Porto or to Nazaré. Alternatively you can take a taxi.
