To Eat in Mafra

Many of the tourists that come through Mafra are there only for the day which means dinner can be a local affair. Stay after the tours have left and watch the town come to life while you dine on delicious Portuguese food at attractive local prices. While there are many choices, A Toca da Raposa will be an evening to remember, especially if you order the Sopa Rica Do Mar. The tables are long, and communal, and the atmosphere is very familial. For breakfast, lunch or any time day or night, it would be hard to beat Sempre Quente. This bakery is picture perfect, in a charming building, on a fairytale street, serving mouthwatering fresh soups, sandwiches and pastry. The soup of the day with a slab of rich dark bread for less than 2 euros means there is plenty of room for dessert. The pastry is always fresh and traditional with a very modern, creative, chic vibe.
