This is a great studio apartment with shared pool, free Wi-Fi and a dedicated seating area within a shared garden.

Beautifully located in the wilds of western Tuscany is this gorgeous converted farmhouse. The original building has been converted into three separate properties that share a wonderful pool and terrace area with reserved seating. We are proud to offer all three amazing apartments for holiday rental.

Rifugio is a cosy, romantic studio apartment suitable for 2 people. This delightful apartment has been decorated with genuine affection and possesses a rustic charm in keeping with its beautiful location. The sleeping area is curtained off from the lounge and contains two single beds pushed together to make a double. The lounge area is a comfortable size and features a choice of seating. There is a basic kitchenette with dining table and chairs and a generously sized bathroom.

Despite the sense of seclusion that retreating to the countryside provides, you are never far from the delights that Tuscany has to offer. There are bars and restaurants within 2km of the property and the sandy beaches of the Tuscan Riviera are only 35km away. Pisa international airport is just 18km away and can be reached by car in under 25 minutes.

The idyllic rural setting of this magnificent property makes it the perfect destination for anybody who wants to escape to the countryside for a relaxing holiday.

How to get there

Pisa airport is closest at 18km. We recommend you hire a car from the aiport if coming by plane. If arriving by train then Lucca is the closest rail station at 7kms from the property.

About the area

The countryside around the apartment is utterly charming and very typical of Tuscany’s lush green valleys with its gently undulating hills covered in vine yards and olive groves. These rural areas can be explored in many ways and we do recommend either hiring a car or bicycles to really get a good look round, but bus tours are available. But just because you start in the country, it doesn’t mean you have to stay there for the duration of your holiday. The beach is not far away and the Tyrrhenian coast is one of the unsung highlights of Tuscany. Viareggio is Tuscany’s largest coastal city and it is only 30km away. The beach is excellent and stretches for miles. One of Italy’s foremost Carnivals takes place in Viareggio every spring. The iconic paper mache floats and masked parades are world famous and quite a sight to behold.  Other smaller resort towns dot the coast, including Forte dei Marmi, which has been an exclusive destination for the Italy’s wealth and nobility for centuries.

The main cities in Tuscany are Florence, Siena and Pisa and they are rightfully swamped (especially in the summer months) with visitors who flock to see major tourist attractions like the leaning tower or Michelangelo’s David. All three cities can easily be reached by public transport from the charming walled city of Lucca which is only 7km away from the apartment. Lucca itself is a worthwhile destination, often overlooked by the majority of tourists. It is quieter, friendlier and better value for money than the others and provides a nice change of pace for those on the tourist trail. The walls of the city have been fully restored and parkland has been planted on top, giving visitors the opportunity to walk round the city with a unique aerial viewpoint. The delightful cobbled streets link ancient museums, cathedrals and churches that can be easily explored in a day, but definitely warrant more of your time. The great composer Puccini was born in Lucca and his life and work is celebrated in the city. One of the houses he lived in has been converted into a museum and his works are performed nightly at the San Giovannni church. Rock fans also love Lucca because of the annual Summer festival which attracts headline acts from all over the world, including Kasabian and the Killers.
