About the area
Since the beginning of the century, the sandy beach of the shell shaped bay has attracted tourists. Situated between Peniche and Nazare, São Martinho has an easy-going, laid-back atmosphere. It has retained a traditional Portuguese culture and way-of-life and is very popular with people flocking to the resort in the summer.
As it lies in a natural bay its shelter makes it a popular choice for families with white sands sloping into calm, shallow water. Sao Martinho is in fact one of the warmest places to swim on the Silver coast. This is very much a tourist resort that provides many activities to keep you amused.
The Silver coast has managed to avoid the overdevelopment and commercialisation of other coastal resorts. Its location suits those wanting to relax on a beach as well as those wanting to absorb some of the culture and tradition of this beautiful region of Portugal. There is a vast array of sights and locations to discover. We would like to recommend just few to start your exploration of the area.
Within 20km you can enjoy the charming old fishing town of Nazare, the beautiful medieval town of Óbidos, historic Alcobaca with its famous Monastery and Foz D'Arelho which is the closest town to the stunning Obidos Lagoon.
Within 50km lies the famous surfing town of Peniche and its world renowned ‘supertubos’ wave, the pilgrimage destination of Fátima and one of Europe’s top golf courses at Praia D’El Rey which is famous for its sea views.
Within 100km is the UNESCO world heritage site at Sintra, the Gothic city of Santarém, the museum house of Alpiarça, and the palace, the church and the convent of Mafra.

Right from us arriving on the holiday complex we new it was going to be good. The location was fabulous and the apartment was one of the best I've stayed in. Plenty of room to move around in (8 of us, inc.4 teenage boys) and the view from the balcony was just amazing. The property manager, Filipe and staff were very helpful and welcoming. Even managed to borrow a full size Bar-B-Q off him for the duration of our stay. The complex in places looked a little dated, but that wouldn't put me off going back. I would definitely recommend this beautiful part of Portugal to my friends and family. 9 out of 10...
