A taxi costs around €3 from the centre of Sao Martinho and there is also a tourist train that stops at the complex many times in the day time in the summer.
There is a bar on-site in the summer.
This stretch of Atlantic coastline has long been revered by the surfing community for its outstanding waves. Peniche is home to “supertubos” and the largest wave ever surfed reached 90 meters high near the charming fishing village of Nazaré. Nestled in between these two towns lies beautiful Sao Martinho do Porto. Protected from the Atlantic by a naturally formed, shell shaped bay, this delightful resort town offers white sand and calm blue waters to a small but ever growing number of sun seekers. The cobbled streets that surround the bay are home to a splendid selection of bars, cafes and restaurants that specialise in the freshest seafood and the warmest of welcomes.
We can’t think of any reason why you would want to leave Sao Martinho, but it is an excellent base from which to explore the Silver Coast. It’s proximity to the A8 motorway makes it easy to explore by car and there is lots to see and do. International visitors flock to the exceptional Praia D'El Rey golf course which has been rated as one of continental Europe’s best courses and it’s only 40km away. Among the many tourist destinations in the area, we recommend the stunning Obidos Lagoon which is only 10km and is home to a lovely nature reserve, excellent water sports and some outstanding scenery.
Portugal’s Silver Coast is the ideal summer holiday destination. Despite its exceptional beauty and fantastic climate, it has managed to avoid the overdevelopment of Portugal’s main tourist resorts. It is home to breathtaking stretches of soft, sandy beaches along it’s Atlantic coastline which are cherished by discerning Portuguese visitors. Visitors who explore inland are richly rewarded by a vast array of historical and cultural treasures, including a UNESCO world heritage site at Sintra, delightful medieval towns and villages and one of Europe’s top golf courses at Praia D’El Rey.
So if you are looking for is some beautiful summer sun, in magnificent natural surroundings, then the fabulous Silver Coast is the perfect destination.
