Spacious 2 bedroom apartment within a popular holiday complex for families (sleeps 5). This apartment has a great position being located on the ground floor with it's own private terrace with a view to the pool. You have a personal gate to take you to the pool from the apartment. 

 

The owner has lovingly appointed the apartment and it is in immaculate condition.  It has a spacious lounge with TV and DVD player, plenty of comfortable lounge seating for 5 people and a wood dining table for 6 people.  Wi-Fi can be provided via a dongle (pay as you go) with prior arrangment but there is also free Wi-Fi from the pool area. Doors lead from the lounge onto your long private terrace which overlooks the pool. The terrace is also accessible from the kitchen and both bedrooms. 

 

The kitchen comes fully equipped with everything you might need including a dishwasher to keep things simple. It's very easy to dine outside as the large door from the kitchen to the terrace takes you there quickly. 

 

The bedrooms are roomy and have the same access to the private terrace. The master bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has two single beds. There is also a folding bed so the property sleeps 5 in total. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, WC and basin and there are Jacuzzi jets in the bath for relaxing time.

 

This area doesn't get too hot at night owing to the cooling sea breeze but if you do need it the owner has installed air-conditioning for your use. 

 

You have a private parking space in the underground garage that you can use. 

 

Within the complex you have a lovely pool which benefits from sunshine all day long and there is a shared tennis court which guests can use for free. For young children there is also a play area with swings and slides etc. 

 

Right next door to the complex there is a great restaurant called Ginny's Kitchen serving a wide range of international cuisine.  The walk to the beach is around 1km and here you will find bars and restaurants all along the bay.

 

This is a popular complex owing to its amenities and proximity to the beach and life of Sao Martinho which is rapidly becoming one of the number 1 destinations to spend a holiday in Portugal attracting visitiors from all over the world.

How to get there

By plane

 

We recommend international travellers fly into Lisbon airport. A number of airlines (including budget airlines) fly direct to Lisbon from all major European destinations. You can find and compare flight prices at http://www.skyscanner.net or download their app for your android or apple device.Alternatively you can fly to Oporto (2.5 hour drive) or Faro (3.5 hour drive).

 

By Road from Lisbon 

 

Sao Martinho do Porto is an easy 1 hour drive from the airport on the A8. Taxis and transfers are available (around € 75-100), as well as a number of car hire options. We will provide detailed directions for your car journey. 

 

By train from UK to Lisbon

 

For Lisbon you can take the 10:23am Eurostar from London to Paris and then the 15:50 TGV service to Irún on the Spanish border. Then connect with the 22:00 overnight Sud Express to Lisbon which arrives at 11:03am the following day. The cheapest return fare is about £209 and can be booked through Spanish Rail (020 7725 7063). From Lisbon to Sao Martinho do Porto by public transport

 

Coaches to Sao Martinho do Porto run several times a day from Lisbon’s Sete Rios coach terminal and the journey time is around 90 minutes. The coach station is a short taxi ride away from the airport (around € 15). Coach information and ticket sales are available at www.rede-expressos.pt

 

By boat from UK to Santander

 

Santander is 880km (7.5 hour drive) away from Sao Martinho do Porto on the Northern coast of Spain. It is served by 8 weekly crossings from the UK ports of Plymouth, Portsmouth and Poole. About the area

The beautiful town of Sao Martinho Do Porto is built around a beautiful bay naturally shaped by the sea to form a perfect shell. Making the most of the view of the bay a string of cafes and restaurants have emerged offering a diverse range of food and drink.

 

The majority of the restaurants you’ll come across will be traditional Portuguese restaurants specialising in Seafood. Portugal has a superb tradition for fresh fish and shellfish and typically the dishes are reasonably simple making the fresh seafood the feature of the meal. Many traditional restaurants will serve dishes known as Cataplanas. These dishes vary considerably depending on the restaurant but they are delicious and include a variety of seafood cooked with onions and tomatoes to make an extremely tasty casserole. Another traditional dish to look out for is pork with clams.

 

At lunchtime a number of restaurants serve a Prato do dia, this is the ‘dish of the day’ but it may be up to three courses. These dishes are typically very good value.

 

Of particular note are the following restaurants: 

 

A CASA –  serves typical Portuguese food with an emphasis on good quality, fresh seafood. 

 

O'FAROL - this restaurant enjoys superb views over the bay. Serving typical Portuguese food, this restaurant is excellent for seafood. 

 

CARVALHO – a good Portuguese menu with some nice dishes. Typically prices are reasonable and the food is good. Well worth visiting for a lunch in particular. 

 

PORTOBELLO - an Italian restaurant that offers good food at reasonable prices. With a wide range on offer, the pizzas in particular are excellent. 

 

ROYAL MARINHO - a Swiss chef offers a diverse range of dishes which vary throughout the year. Dishes can include Swiss fondue in the winter and French classics such as Chateaubriand.

 

PESCA NO PRATO -  An excellent choice of restaurant for traditional Portuguese food with an emphasis on fresh seafood.

 

Although alcohol is served in all of the many cafes surrounding the bay of Sao Martinho, the two specialist bars in Sao Martinho are Pato Bravo and The Status Bar. Both bars offer nice environments to enjoy a drink and they continue serving until the early morning. Pato Bravo has a beautiful central view over the bay. The Status Bar is found next to the Atlantico hotel just behind the children's play area on the bay. 


Also well worth a visit is the Hotel Palace do Capitao, a stunning historic building overlooking the bay. Enjoy afternoon tea in a beautiful environment.

   

Supermarkets

 

For a large supermarket get on the main road out of Sao Martinho (R. Gen. Carmona), Just before you get to the junction to join the N242 (the road you would use to get to Nazare) you will see a large supermarket (Intermarché) on your right-hand side. It’s about 10 mins walk from the centre of Sao Martinho Do Porto.

 

Golf

 

There are 2 excellent golf courses with easy reach of Sao Martinho:

 

The Praia del Rey is the best known of the local courses, it is ranked as the 13th best golf course in Europe. The course is located approximately 40 mins drive from Sao Martinho.

 

The Golden Eagle golf course is also very popular and it is located in a very peaceful setting approximately 40 minutes drive from Sao Martinho. 

 

Locality

 

Given the location of Sao Martinho do Porto it suits those wanting to relax on a beach as well as those wanting to soak up some of the wide ranging cultural heritage of the Silver Coast. There is a vast wealth of history and culture in the area and there are many beautiful and picturesque towns too. Below are just some of the many suggestions for a day out in the Silver Coast: 

 

The neighbouring town Nazaré, a charming old fishing town is 10km away.

 

The beautiful medieval borough Óbidos (20 km), 

 

Foz D'Arelho with the stunning Obidos Lagoon is 10km.

 

The historic town Alcobaca with the famous monastery is 15km.

 

Peniche, famous for surfing and the renowned 'supertubos' wave is 40km. From here you can catch a boat to the Berlengas Islands - a nature reserve.

 

Lisbon is 100km.

 

The UNESCO world heritage site Sintra with 2 palaces is 90km.

 

The Gothic city Santarém and the museum house of Alpiarça is 70 km

 

The palace, the church and the convent of Mafra is 90 km.

 

Also visit the basilica and the convent of Batalha from the 14th century. The pilgrimage destination Fátima (50 km), the castles of Leiria and Porto do Mos. The University City Coïmbra (100 km), the convent of the tempeliers in Tomar, etc.
