Experience the beauty and exhilaration of one of Italy’s most stunning Alpine ski resorts. Montecampione is just 50 minutes drive from Milan Bergamo airport.

Accommodation at Montecampione is functional and well located. Up to 6 guests can sleep comfortably in this intimate 1 bedroom apartment. The double bedroom is complimented by a double sofa bed in the ample living area and bunk beds are also available. Self catering is no problem with quality kitchen and dining facilities. Shops and supermarkets are just a short walk from the apartment. A half board option is also available for a small extra cost, or you may prefer to dine at any or all of the fine restaurants and pizzerias on the resort.

Montecampione has 20 runs to choose from, with something to challenge all levels skiers as well as offering a good progression of difficulty for the novice skier. Ski/board hire and a ski school with English speaking instructors are situated in the accommodation block which you can ski in and out of. The main ski lift is just outside your door and is your access to 3 stations on the mountain at 1200 metres, 1800 metres and 2000 metres. Most of the runs are covered by an artificial snow system to make sure the weather wont ruin your holiday. Excellent excursions are available from friendly, English speaking guides and the moonlight snow shoe walk to an Alpine lodge comes highly recommended.

Montecampione will meet all of your skiing needs but has plenty more to offer. It is also home to snowmobiles, several bars, a nightclub and an excellent pool/sauna complex(chargeable). Travelling off the resort to explore this delightful part of Lombardy is a great idea. The surrounding areas of Lake Iseo and Valle Camonica are holiday destinations in their own right and can be easily toured by car or rail.

This apartment is ideal for small groups of friends who want to enjoy affordable Alpine skiing at its best.

How to get there

Montecampione can easily be reached from Bergamo airport, it is 63 km from the resort. Other airports that may also be considered include Brescia Gabriele D\'Annunzio airport (77km), Milan Linate airport (108km) and Milan Malpensa airport (149km).

Hiring a car is the most straightforward way of reaching Montecampione and it will give you more freedom to explore the surrounding areas. If you decide to travel without a car there are plenty of transfer options. If you land at Bergamo airport, you can take the airport shuttle to Bergamo bus station and then take a bus to Boario Terme station. Shuttle buses run from all airports to Brescia. Visitors landing at either Milan airport can alternatively reach Brescia by train from Milan Central by using an airport shuttle bus. The small Treno del Nord leaves Brescia every hour and it travels the entire length of Lake Iseo\'s eastern shore and up to Edolo in Val Camonica. The journey is a pleasure with plenty to see on route. Boario Terme is the closest stop to Montecampione. Please check the Trenitalia website for times.

About the area

The Lombardy / Bergamo Alps/Sondrio region

Lombardy is one of the northernmost regions of Italy and it shares a border with Switzerland. Italy\'s second city, Milan, dominates the economy and culture of the region and is located just 100km from Montecampione. The two cities nearest to the resort are Brescia and Bergamo. Both Brescia and Bergamo are energetic, progressive and prosperous cities that accurately reflect the robust economy of northern Italy. In spite their modernity, both Brescia and Bergamo have managed to retain and glorify their vast cultural heritage and offer visitors incredible opportunities to experience the often troubled history of the area. Brescia is home to one of the greatest collections of Roman and medieval buildings, monuments and artefacts, including a UNESCO world heritage site. The city also boasts fantastic Piazzas, cathedrals, churches and wonderful museums. Bergamo is re-knowned for its Venetian walls which divide the city into two centres. The walls date back to the 17th century and surround the upper part of the city which is known as the Città Alta. It is essentially an open-air museum with a remarkable array of palazzos, piazzas, monuments and a citadel. Museums here proudly display some incredible examples of the Italian old masters including Mantenge, Titian, Botticelli and Raphael.

The overall quality of food and wine in the Lombardy region is superb. Fine dining fanatics will rejoice at the news that there are more Michelin-starred restaurants here than any other region in Italy. Bergamo and Brescia have a number of one-star restaurants to try, but for the ultimate dining experience you could try one of the six 3-star restaurants in the region. Da Vittorio is in Brusaporto, just 8km east of Bergamo. The superb quality of the local food is consistent even in the cafés and trattorias. Pasta is of course a staple here, but also rice (risotto) and polenta are also used extensively. Produce from Lombardy that is exported globally includes Taleggio and Gorganzola cheeses, Bresola and Panettone.

The wine growing region of Franciacorta is one of Italy\'s most reknowned and it is north-west of Brescia, in the direction of Lake Iseo. The fantastic vineyards produce quality (DOC) wines and superb (DOCG) sparkling wines using the \'champagne method\'. Tours and tastings can be arranged and visitors are offered an opportunity to enjoy outstanding wine in stunning surroundings. The natural beauty of the vineyards provide a beautiful backdrop to some fine Renaissance architecture including villas and castles. While in the area you can also visit the Outlet Village near Rodengo Saiano where discounted fashion items (often Milanese) are sold in approximately 160 boutiques. Visitors can also try the Franciacorta Golf Club which is heavily favored amongst Italian professionals and is the nearest 18-hole course to Montecampione.

The Lago Iseo area

The beautiful Lake Iseo is one of the quieter, more secluded Italian lakes and it is much smaller than its neighbours Como and Garda. Despite its lack of size, Iseo has been a popular destination for Italians for numerous years and there is much to enjoy in and around the lake. In more recent times the stunning lake has become something of a Mecca for extreme sports enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies which belies Iseo\'s reputation for quiet seclusion and old-world charm. Sailing, canoeing, paragliding, wind-surfing and kite-surfing are available on the lake and the surrounding environs are perfect for mountain biking, trekking and hiking.

There are 3 of \'Italy\'s most beautiful villages in the lake area; Monte Isola, Lovere and Bienno. Each of these vilages has its own charm and all are well-worth a visit. One of the easiest ways to navigate the lake is to use the network of ferries which regularly dock at the towns by the lake\'s shore. The beautiful Monte Isola is a prominent stop on most routes and it is one of Europe\'s largest inland islands. The chapel on the top of the island offers incredible views across the lake from a vantage point 1000 feet above the surface. Lovere is one of many towns and villages in the nearby area that have benefited from some attentive repair and preservation work that has restored many of its artworks and churches. These are now open to the public but are not always obvious, so it pays to explore.

On the way you will also find a nice selection of bars, cafes and restaurants, often on the waterside, these are great places to relax and enjoy some of the superb local cuisine. A trip to Lake Iseo would not be complete without trying Tinca al Forno (baked lake tench) this is usually freshly caught and served with polenta. Clusane is the village famed for its preparation of this delicious dish and they have a yearly festival celebrating it. Don\'t forget to see some of the other wonderful villages around the lake, including Pisogne, Sarnico and Morone which is famous for its stone \'pyramids\'.

The Valle Camonica is globally reknowned for its unrivaled assembly of prehistoric engravings, paintings and drawings. With over 300,000 distinct artworks in the valley, some dating back to 8000bc, it is understandable why the whole area has been designated as a UNESCO world heritage site. The Parco Nazionale delle Incisioni Rupestridi Naquane near Capo di Ponte is a fantastic starting point for anyone wishing to examine these amazing glimpses into mankind\'s past. But its not all history and archaeology in the valley. You can enjoy horse riding, bowling, ice climbing, trekking and go-karting in the local area.
